Just a Thought

Mark 8:34-38 “Then He called the crowd to Him along with His disciples and said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Anyone that knows me and reads my blog entries knows that I normally only write during the fall (the football season) and I generally write on topics that are in the news.

Well, this past Sunday, Father’s Day, I heard a man speak about his father and the impact that a simple prayer had on his life.  This moved me in a way that led me to the following message …

The man told the story of how, just prior to leaving for Vietnam, his family, uncles, cousins, and in particular, his father, all prayed for him, but he focused on what his father said …

The man said, “it was like he was just talking to a friend.” And his father ended his prayer for his son by saying, “don’t worry, you’ll be back.”

He went on to tell how those words, “don’t worry, you’ll be back” were always in the back of his mind and how he believed his father and was never afraid.

Then one day on a mission, taking heavy fire, eight men lie on the battlefield … some dying and yet others already dead.  This man was a marine.  And as most of you know, the Marines motto is, “Never leave a man behind.”  This man said he heard his father’s voice, “don’t worry, you’ll be back” coupled with the Marines motto and he set off, one by one, to bring all eight men back behind the battle line.

Corinthians 4:7-12

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken, struck down, but not destroyed”

In a sense, we should all be marines and never leave a man (woman or child) behind.  We should take up arms and prepare to be soldiers in Christ’s army.

However, in order to be a true soldier in Christ’s army we have to have full knowledge of just how strong we are in Him.  We may fall, but we will never hit rock bottom.  Because through life’s battles, God has shown us that when we fight with Him, we can not be defeated.

In other words, “don’t worry, you’ll be back”

So, “never leave a man behind”

John 8:31-32

“Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free”

I have a good friend and fraternity brother who once told me, “until you’ve strapped on a pair of boots and served this great country, I really don’t give a (expletive) what your opinion is.”  While harsh, I believe this mindset to be true.

Politicians have their legislative agendas … many directly against the word of the Lord.

Gays have “come out of the closet” and fight for their rights … rights that are outright offensive and in direct conflict with the word of God.

I have a good friend, Terry Orr, the father of our client, Zach Orr, who is always telling me, “I’ve already got too many friends.  I don’t care if you like me or not.”  Another way of saying it, my way, “I only care what one person thinks of me.”

So, if you want to vote, “Vote God”

If you want to go to war, strap on your shield, sword and armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) and fight the good fight.

God needs more disciples with a military outlook … willing to fight for Him.

Therefore, I challenge anyone reading this blog entry to (stealing the phrase) come out of the closet for Christ.  Let’s go to war and make sure we leave no man, woman or child behind without a personal relationship with the Lord!
