John 2:20-21

1 John 2:20-21 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth What does that mean … “anointing from the Holy One” …?

Let’s begin by looking at the definition of anointing;

to choose by or as if by divine election; also: to designate as if by a ritual anointment <critics anointed the author as the bright new talent

And who or what is “the Holy One” …

In a recent poll, 85% of the world’s population believe in (a) God (Christians, “the” God, Muslims, Allah, Buddhist’s, Buddha, etc.

And of the 85%, 44% are Christian.  And as Christians, we all believe in Jesus Christ

Now, quantitative research methodology teaches us that there are always sampling errors and abstentions.  Therefore, it is safe to assume that 90% of the world’s population believe in God.  Furthermore, over half are Christians.

So, why is the Holy Spirit often times the forgotten one.  And, more importantly, as Christians, why do we not connect with the Holy Spirit who dwells within us?

Do you believe you can fax a piece of paper from a machine to Tokyo?

Do you believe you can have a video conference call with someone in Australia?

Of course you do, because these things exist.

Well, the Holy Spirit is, in essence, our fax machine and/or internet, providing a portal to heaven.  The Holy Spirit is alive within us.

We’ve all heard the term, “Heaven on earth.”

The Holy Spirit provides us the ability to live that out.

Every one of us has experienced the hair on the back of your neck standing erect, or that sensation of something telling you to turn left, even though you know you “need” to turn right.

Some might say that is your Guardian Angel, and they may be right, but why is it so hard to believe that sensation is a connection with our heavenly Father … Guardian Angel, Holy Spirit or otherwise?

Romans 8:11

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you

Romans 8:26

In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words

What’s interesting (and exciting to me) is that the Holy Spirit is referred to as a person, NOT as a “thing”.  Therefore, if we follow logical deduction, we should be able to speak to the Holy Spirit, as a person, the same way we do with anyone else.

John 14:15-17

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world can not receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.  You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you

So, the next time you see a football player after scoring a touchdown, baseball player crossing home plate or any other athlete for that matter, raise a hand and point to heaven, remember, you don’t have to have a camera on you to warrant His admiration …

Have your own conversation with the Holy Spirit and just show Him, in your own way, that you love Him and He’ll be just fine with that.
